Dennis A. Andrejko, AIA

 

 

Design AwardsThroughout a career dedicated to the advancement of sustainability and the vital symbiosis between architectural education and practice, Dennis A. Andrejko has provided invaluable resonance to “the voice of the architecture profession” - the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

 

AIA Buffalo/WNY commends Dennis A. Andrejko for his outstanding service to the AIA at the local, state and national levels. The ongoing and successful Architecture + Education Program began in 2000 under the direction of Mr. Andrejko, then Chair of the Education Committee of AIA Buffalo/WNY. In 2002 and 2003, he served as President of the local chapter and then became a State Director for AIA New York State in 2005 and 2006. Currently serving a three-year term as a Regional Director on the AIA National Board, Mr. Andrejko is active on the Licensing Committee, and to that end, is a member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He is also involved in the Sustainability Committee and the Educator/Practitioner Network (EPN).

 

Mr. Andrejko is principal of Andrejko + Associates and has served as an Associate Professor of Architecture at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Architecture & Planning (UB) for more than 25 years. He was Interim Chair and Director of the Architecture Program from 1990 to 1999. Mr. Andrejko is currently AIAS Faculty Advisor, IDP Education Coordinator and a member of the Society of Building Science Educators (SBSE).

 

A recognized expert in sustainable design with an emphasis on cold regions and passive solar energy, Mr. Andrejko has been published and featured in diverse media. He has conducted sponsored research, as well as lectured and exhibited internationally. Mr. Andrejko has led several Sustainable Design Assessment Teams (SDAT’s), assisting communities throughout the country in sustainable planning efforts. A member of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES), he has organized and participated in several solar energy conferences, including SOLAR 2009, the ASES National Solar Conference, which will be held in Buffalo.
