Architecture + Education - CEPA Gallery Exhibit:
The Buffalo/ Western New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture, (AIA) was for the second year, the proud sponsor of a collaboration of local architects and teachers from the Buffalo Public Schools that uses architecture as a tool to teach students math, science, history, art and technology all within the New York State educational curriculum. Schools participating included the Discovery School, Waterfront School, and the Frederick Law Olmsted School.
Teachers and architects began this endeavor with an intensive 2 day workshop at the Waterfront School with a theme of “Buffalo Architecture”. Architects presented architectural concepts such as 2 and 3 dimensional design, programming, model building and even a tour of significant Downtown Buffalo buildings. The workshop ended with teachers developing a curriculum with the architects that could be taught to the students.
With concepts and a curriculum in hand the architects joined teachers in the classroom to work with the students in a project based program that will culminate with a presentation of student work at CEPA gallery in January 2009.
